Alzheimer’s progression tracked prior to dementia

A long-term study of older adults led by Anne Fagan, PhD (right), has helped validate a new system for identifying and classifying older adults with preclinical Alzheimer’s disease. Many researchers think this stage of the disease, which can last a decade or more, is a critical window for slowing or stopping Alzheimer’s disease.

Childhood health linked to high school completion

Each year in the St. Louis region, thousands of African-American students drop out of high school. According to a newly released policy brief, health and education are closely related, and there are patterns related to health that increase the risk of high school dropout. The brief is the latest in a  yearlong, multidisciplinary study.

Engineer’s $3.5 million grant aims at improving survival of cancer patients

A technology proposed by Lihong Wang, PhD, professor of engineering, may hold the key to detecting tumor cell circulation. It could enable earlier therapeutic interventions and curative surgical treatment and improve survival of patients with cancer.
